About Us
The Coalition for Quality at the End of Life (CQEL) in cooperation with the Institute to Enhance Palliative Care at the University of Pittsburgh launched CompassionateCareForAll.org on April 2, 2010 to provide palliative and hospice care resources for patients and families in our region facing serious illness or the end of life.
The Coalition for Quality at the End of Life (CQEL)
CQEL is made up of leading health systems, providers, insurers, citizen groups, government agencies, and philanthropic, faith-based, and other organizations concerned about the quality of care that is available to seriously ill and dying people and their families in western Pennsylvania.
Mission
CQEL's mission is to improve end-of-life care in the region by identifying and collaborating with key stakeholder groups. CQEL works to achieve its mission by engaging the community to build demand for better end-of-life care, building capacity among local health care institutions for the delivery of skilled and compassionate care, focusing attention on the regulatory and financial barriers to quality end-of-life care, and promulgating appropriate standards and measures.
The Institute to Enhance Palliative Care
In June 2003, the schools of the health sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, in collaboration with Family Hospice and Palliative Care, established the Institute to Enhance Palliative Care. The institute invited scholars and health professionals from diverse fields to join together to improve care for people who are seriously ill and dying in western Pennsylvania. The unique collaboration of an academic research institution and a community-based hospice and palliative care provider now makes it possible to gain greater understanding of the range of experiences of people who are facing serious illness.
Mission
The mission of the institute is to improve the access to and quality of palliative care in western Pennsylvania by (1) educating health care providers regarding palliative care, (2) conducting research into the most effective ways to provide palliative care, (3) raising public awareness about the availability of palliative care, and (4) advancing public policies that support excellent, high-quality care for people who are seriously ill.
