Adult Day Services
Adult day service programs provide care in a group setting for older adults who need and will benefit from the following:
- Assistance with medical and personal care services such as medication administration and toileting
- Safety monitoring due to cognitive impairment such as the effect from
a stroke or Alzheimer’s disease - Socialization and recreation to reduce isolation and inactivity
Adult day service programs are generally open during the daytime, Monday through Friday with a few centers offering extended evening and weekend hours. For adults who need care for several hours per day, adult day service programs are typically more affordable than fee based in-home care.
Adult day service programs are similar in concept to child care programs. They are designed to help working caregivers continue to work, free up caregiver time in order to complete errands and household chores and keep personal appointments.
Adult day service programs serving four or more people a day are licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging as Older Adult Daily Living.
